Maxine Guthrie
Maxine Guthrie, longtime Wainwright resident was born September 13, 1933 in Woodward, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Alva and Flora (McDaniel) Goodwin. She passed from this life on November 26, 2019 at her home. She was 86.

Mom raised 8 children, earned her master's degree in education, reaching the level of Magna Cumme Laude graduating with a 4.0. She taught countless children as a third-grade teacher, cooked the best fried chicken you've ever had, listened to the Gaither gospel revival for hours at a time and loved like no other. Chicken was not the only thing she cooked well; she could make a good meal out of nothing. She made hundreds of donuts, rolls and made the prettiest cakes. She liked to can, always preserving food from the garden and hundreds of jars of jelly and jams.

Mom made the prettiest clothes without a pattern and could look at anything crocheted and duplicate it. She was a gardener, a writer and an artist. Mom was an avid reader she continually expanded her knowledge by reading books of all kinds.

She could do anything that she put her mind to; plumbing, electrical, sheet rocking, upholstery, she could even start a car with a bobby pin. She really was a super woman.

Survivors include her children, Carrolyn Hogan of Garland, TX, Julie & Keith Barnett of Poteau, Michael & Penny Guthrie of Wainwright, Twila & David Hollis of Oktaha, Retha & Monty Mitchell of Muskogee, Shelby & Michael Morgan of Morris, Stacey & Steve Morgan of Haskell, and Mitchell & Celeste Guthrie of Wainwright; 19 grandchildren Heather (Tate) Harrison, Jennifer (Garrett) Miller, Crystal (Ed) Kirkland, Stephanie (Evan) Gallant, Ashley Guthrie, Kaci Guthrie, Chad (Taylor) Guthrie, Aaron (Kassidy) Hollis, Megan (Jake) Lester, Amber (John) Gaston. Levi (Jessie) Morgan, Samuel Morgan, Steven (Lucy) Morgan, Suzanne (Eric) Evans, Sandra (Jesse) Thomason, Montana, Daphney, Hunter and Talon Guthrie; 38 great grandchildren, Parker, Carson, Landon, Garrett, Makaela, Jordan, Logan, Connor, Makell, Kensly, Holston, William, Madison, Jaryn, Michael, Jaxon, Abel, Rhilyn, Sean, Lucas, Ryan, Ashley, Allie, Anna, Addie, Katie, Lennie, Jackson, Sadie, Ruby, Audrie, Remi, Sage, Colt, Henry, Leo, Ethan, Isaac and baby boy Thomason.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband Virgil F. Guthrie Jr., parents Alva & Flora Goodwin, and brother Harold Goodwin, son-in-law Carl Hogan and grandson Scott Morgan.

Maxine was an amazing woman of God and I’m so proud to have known her and called her my dear friend. I will cherish all of our memories. She was a wonderful and most loving mother and grandmother. She had the most beautiful voice which I had the privilege of hearing sing each and every morning before our students would arrive. I can only imagine that she now sings with the Angels of our Mighty Lord. She will forever be a guardian Angel of many of us. I can see the sparkle in her eyes as she was welcomed with loving arms into her new home . She was loved dearly and will be missed by many.
