Porum, OK - Juanita Lois Wood came into this world on a very chilly day in January, 1929. The year the stock market crashed. She was premature because her mother had the flu. They had to use her dad's hankies for diapers.

Juanita was the third born of five girls to the Reverend Walker Wood and Jessie Wood. Their lives were not easy but was always filled with love. The family moved often and Juanita and her siblings worked in the fields and farms along with their parents.

The family lived in California and Arizona but finally settled down in Porum, Oklahoma where Juanita excelled in school and graduated.

Juanita grew more beautiful with each passing year and when she was 23 she was swept off her feet by a handsome gentleman who flirted with her and drank coffee at Roxie's Café in Porum where she was employed earning a mere $2.00 per day.

History was made when Bill and Juanita were married in Fort Smith, Arkansas December 3rd 1952 and started a family with the birth of Nelson in 1955 and Karen in 1958. Juanita and Bill were true partners in life working together taking care of livestock and much later running the Gulf Service Station in Porum.

Prior to working in the Station, Juanita was the head Chef at Porum Schools for many years where her rolls and desserts were loved by all who tasted them.

Juanita's talents were limitless and her love of God and family boundless. A few of her many gifts were teaching Sunday School, painting, sewing, gardening, canning and oh my goodness the homemade butter and rolls were out of this world good. She created magic in her kitchen. She loved to create new dishes and her turkey and dressing was everyone's favorite.

Juanita was always willing to lend a helping hand no matter the situation from helping with Nelson's Boy Scouts, to creating a giant referee Snoopy Dog for Karen's class parade float (which won first prize). She was always willing to help when her church needed anything done and did it with a heart filled with love.

She loved singing hymns and sang them often even immediately before her passing. Elvis Presley was blessed to be born the same day as Juanita. One of her many accomplishments was winning first place at an art show in Muskogee for a beautiful painting she did of the king of rock and roll and sold many duplicates she painted afterwards. Her paintings are breathtaking and there are several hanging in her beloved First Free Will Baptist Church of Porum.

Juanita experienced many, many changes in her 97 plus years on this planet from dirt floors and horse drawn wagons to today's Artificial Intelligence.

Juanita loved her family and church family and it showed in every aspect of her life. In the last few weeks before she passed away she talked a great deal about the end times. She spoke of the great falling away from the church and about natural disasters. We should all heed her words and be diligent.

Juanita was blessed with two children, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren:

Her children: Karen Spradlin-Kinsey and W. Nelson Spradlin and wife, Janet, of Edmond, OK.

Her grandchildren: Mandi Anderson and husband, Will Hensley; Amber Cleary and husband, Jason; Darby Eisenhour and husband, Daniel; and Will Spradlin and fiancée, Apple Wong.

Her great-grandchildren: Dalton Cleary, Jason Cleary, Audrey Eisenhour, Andrew Eisenhour, Elizabeth Eisenhour, Kyra Cleary, and Kylie Cleary.

Her other daughters: Annie Whitley and Margie Wright.

Her special friends: Lisa Henderson and Belinda McDonald

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Walker and Jessie Wood; her husband and father of her children, Bill Spradlin; and her sisters, Ila Arnett, Alta Holland, Joyce Farmer, and Ruth Weathers.

The light here on this planet earth has dimmed with her passing and she will be sorely missed in the days to come, but we'll rejoice when we get to meet her again in heaven. Until then we can gain comfort in knowing she's with our Lord and Savior watching over us all on high.

Viewing will be held at Mallory Chapel in Porum from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm on Friday, July 17 and from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 18.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at First Porum Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Wendlandt officiating. Interment will follow at Fields Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory of Stigler.
