Herbert Alvin Snider, known affectionately as Herb to his friends and family, passed away at the age of 93 on January 11, 2024, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Born on March 9, 1930, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Herb was a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather and friend.
Preceded in death by his father, William Oscar Snider, mother Alpha Edna Snider (Julien), his devoted wife Bettye Jo Snider (Howell), daughter Suzanne Snider, son-in-law, Gary Huggins and siblings, Brothers, Joseph Snider, Oliver Snider, Milton Snider, and sisters; Alta "Opal" Aubrey and Edna "Dorene," Tuttle. Herb's memory will be forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew him.
Herb is survived by his one son, Lee Snider and wife, Carolyn of Broken Arrow, OK; three daughters, Teresa Huggins of Oktaha, OK, Lisa Philhower and husband, Mike of Jacksonville, FL, and Arletta Engelking and husband, Chuck of Apollo Beach, FL. His legacy continues through his adored grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, other family members and close friends who will remember his wisdom and warmth.
A proud alumnus of Sapulpa High School, class of 1948, and alumni member of Bacone College. Herb and Bettye were united in Marriage on June 14, 1954 at Bacone Chapel in Muskogee where he served as the Minister for Bacone after his Military Career. Herb was honorably retired as a Lt. Col for the United States Army with tours in both Korea and Vietnam. He was a devoted man of faith, serving as a minister for most of his life, touching many lives through his spiritual guidance. His passions included writing music, a testament to his creative spirit and love for the arts.
Herb's life was an embodiment of dedication, love, and service. His commitment to his country, to his family, and to his faith were the pillars upon which he built a remarkable existence. He was cherished by many and will be dearly missed. Herb's journey on earth may have concluded, but his influence will continue to resonate.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, January 19, 2024 at Shipman Funeral Home Chapel in Wagoner, OK. Interment will follow at 1:30 pm at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery in Ft. Gibson, OK.
