Grover (Pat) Patterson II was born June 17, 1931, to G.O. Patterson Sr. and Mary Evelyn (Collins) Patterson of Hulbert, Oklahoma. He departed this life on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at his home in Nowata, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years and 221 days.

Pat was a graduate of Tahlequah Central High School. It was during these years he earned his ranking of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America. He was also an all-state basketball player in High School.

He graduated with a Business degree from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

Pat served 4 years with the Marine Corps being discharged as First Lieutenant.

Pat returned to the community of Hulbert, Oklahoma in 1960 and bought the local mercantile store. He then added a lumber company and started a trucking company, The Cherokee Freight Lines to bring goods that served Northeast Oklahoma. He was a 32nd degree Mason and loved his Cherokee Roots. He purchased the First State Bank of Hulbert, serving as President for thirty years. Once retired from banking in the early 90's, he purchased a ranch in Nowata, Oklahoma and spent 26 years enjoying the life of a cattle rancher.

Pat enjoyed all his businesses over the years. He invested himself in the community of Hulbert. You would find him every year at the annual Cherokee County 4H Livestock Show purchasing cattle, pigs, and sheep to help the youth in the area. He helped bring Lake Region Electric into the community as well as getting the town of Hulbert Incorporated to bring water to the area.

Pat is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mari Leigh (Weber) Patterson. Pat had four daughters, Eve Marie Nimkar and husband Niranjan of Atlanta, Georgia, Elizabeth Leigh Johnson and husband Kirk of Enid, Oklahoma, Erin Ann Howe of Locust Grove, Oklahoma, and Patrice Caroline DeLaPaz and husband Xavier, of Fort Worth, Texas.

Pat had 7 grandsons and 1 granddaughter, Bonn Johnson, Jaxson Johnson, Ian Johnson and Willam Johnson, Justin Howe, Alexander Howe, Xander DeLaPaz and Zoe DeLaPaz.

He is preceded in death by his father, mother, and sister Virginia Griffith of Amarillo, Texas.

Pat will be greatly missed by his family and friends. His daughters admired his strength of character, moral code, and work ethic.

Graveside services will be 2:00 pm, Friday January 29, 2021 in the Tahlequah City Cemetery. Officiating will be Harley Disheroon. Honorary pallbearers are Bonn Johnson, Jaxon Johnson, Ian Johnson, Willam Johnson, Justin Howe, Alex Howe, Xander DeLaPaz, and Zoe DeLaPaz. Final arrangements have been placed under the care of Green Country Funeral Home.
