George Lloyd Carman
George Lloyd Carman, 84, of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2019. He was born on July 24, 1935 in Okay, Oklahoma to William A. Carman and Virginia (Ford) Carman. He attended Okay and Fort Gibson Public Schools. His family moved to Fort Gibson in 1942.
George lived his life to the fullest. He loved to travel, and said he had been to every state in the Union. He was very sociable, and enjoyed motorcycles, horses, camping, and boating. George gave his heart to God. He loved his Mama dearly, and his heart's desire was to go to Heaven and see her again. He attended Trinity Family Worship in Fort Gibson. George was a very hard worker, and retired from OG&E as a lineman after 30 years of service. George served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 20 in Fort Gibson, and was a former Commander of that Post. He was a member of the Bedouin Shrine, and Bedouin Shrine Mounted Patrol, and won a Shrine Ring Race as "Utility Bill". He was also a member of the Masonic Order and Elks Lodge. He will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William A. and Virginia Carman; son, Gary Carman; brothers, J.T. Carman and John Carman; and sisters, Ruth Huitt and Faye Cooper.
George is survived by his sons, Mark Carman of Fort Gibson and Mike Carman of Muskogee; grandchildren, Jamie Carman, Brandi Sanchez, Ashley Carman, Markie Carman, and Cortni Carman; great-grandchildren, Taylor Sanchez, Kaylee Sanchez, Lane Capps, Luke Capps, and Lincoln West; his sister, Helen Satterfield of Fort Gibson, and special nieces and nephews, Kenny Carman, Wayne Carman, Kathy Hamilton, Kay Cawvey, Larry Huitt, Karen Gillispie, Alan Cooper and Georgia Wahl; special friend, Vicki Davis and family and many friends.
A visitation will be Monday, September 16th, 5:00-7:00pm at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home in Fort Gibson.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Fort Gibson at 12:00 noon Tuesday, September 17th, with Rev. Daniel Miller officiating. Committal prayers and interment will be at Fort Gibson National Cemetery at 2:00 pm, with members, Tim Smith, Jim Quinn, Dennis Crittenden, Tom Russell, Bob Teeter and Frank Posch of the American Legion Frank Gladd Post #20 in Fort Gibson serving as casket bearers.
Honorary casket bearers are Ron Huckabay, Rick Berkenbile, Johnny Nichols, Bobby Cook, Christopher Back and Gale Barnes. Full military honors will be observed.
