Betty Sue Drum (Acker) Wells

"...and she shall have music wherever she goes."

Betty Sue Wells, affectionately known by her family as Hoyete, was born at home on May 11, 1942. She was born on Wildcat Mountain in Braggs Oklahoma, to Chester Drum and Mattie Wildcat Drum, both of whom preceded her in death. The oldest of 10 children, Betty was educated in the Braggs Public School system. Prior to attending college, Betty would be joined in marriage to Herman Acker in Stigler Oklahoma in July of 1963. During their marriage of almost 30 years, Betty and Herman would raise five children. Herman would precede her in death, with his passing being in 2000.

Fulfilling her desire to continue her education, Betty earned an Associate's degree in Secretarial Science from Bacone College. She loved the college environment and made the Dean's list each year, all the while raising children at home. She would recall her graduation as one of the proudest days of her life.

A woman of many talents, Betty was an avid quilt maker who also enjoyed many hobbies. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, fishing, word search books, gardening, and visiting the casinos. Betty loved to dance and, it was known that she could really cut a rug!

It was through her love of dancing that Betty met Clarence Well at the VFW Saturday night dance. When Clarence asked Betty to dance, the rest became history. The two were married November 16, 2005. During their years together, Betty and Clarence enjoyed traveling and dancing until Clarence's passing.

Much too soon for our hearts, our beloved Betty Sue began her own journey to see the creator on April 2, 2021 at the age of 78.

Betty Sue was preceded in death by her daughter Mary Louise (Acker) Allen, her son, Richard Herman Acker, four brothers, Luther(Sonny) Drum, Leon Drum, Billy Ray Drum, Jesse Lee Drum and two sisters, Pauline Drum and Corrina (Drum) Neal and two grandchildren, Sydnee Horsechief and Brandon Allen.

Betty Sue leaves behind to continue her memory, three daughters, Betty Jean Diana, Lena Horsechief, and Martha Patterson; two brothers, Chester Drum Jr and John Glen Drum; and one sister Geraldine Ogden. To further her legacy, she leaves five grandsons, D'Mahree' Turner, Corrigan Horsechief, Garrett Horsechief , Tyler Allen and Ashwin Patterson; four granddaughters, Samantha Horsechief, Tiffany Dunn, Robbie Dunn and Baily Allen. She leaves six great grandchildren and various extended family members and friends.

Betty Sue's homegoing services will begin with a wake at her home on Braggs Mountain on Wednesday, April 7, at 5:00 p.m., followed by a graveside service on Thursday, April 8 at 10:00 am at Greenleaf Cemetery in Tahlequah Oklahoma. Services will be conducted by Green Country Funeral home. There will not be a funeral home viewing.
