Wayne McVey, 82, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2016. He was born July 29, 1934 in Berkeley, California to Ira D McVey and Lucile Simpson McVey. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy and received an Honorable discharge. Wayne met and later married the love of his life, Laverne Hildreth on December 8, 1953 in Reno, Nevada. They shared more than 63 years of life and marriage together.
He worked as a mechanic for Yaffe Iron & Metal Co and retired in 2000 after many years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Lucile McVey; daughter, Janet McVey; and brother, Joe McVey.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Laverne; his sons, Mark McVey and wife Durenda of Muskogee, James McVey and wife Pam of Ft. Gibson; his daughter, Norma Smith and husband Darrell of Porter; his grandchildren, Chris and Misty McVey, Brandon McVey, Ashley and David Arnold, Cody McVey, Rachel Smith, and Shawn Smith; great grandchildren, Zander, Cason, Gabe, Miley, Parker, Chelsie, Carliegh, and Kynlee; his brother, Stanley McVey of Michigan; and his sisters-in-law, Wanda Sluder of Rush Springs, and Rachel Minchew of Montclair, CA; along with many other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Funeral services honoring Wayne's life will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 9, 2016 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Stanley McVey officiating. Interment will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, OK with Military Honors being presented. Pallbearers will be Chris McVey, David Arnold, Cody McVey, Joe McCracken, Mitchell Smith, and Darrell Smith serving as pallbearers.
