Shirley's Story

Shirley Jo Bacon, 78, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born October 26, 1938 to William Earl Foster and Lucy (Lovett) Foster in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She grew up in Rural Muskogee County and graduated from Boynton High School with the class of 1956. During high school Shirley played basketball.
Shirley was known to be a proud democrat. She worked at Brockway Glass as a foreman until she retired in 1992 after 32 years of service. Shirley's family remembers her being a very hard worker so her family could have everything they needed. She enjoyed going to The Brockway Glass Annual Picnics. After retiring, Shirley enjoyed traveling.
She attended Muskogee First Assembly of God Church. Shirley loved attending plays at the Muskogee Little Theatre and attending The Salvation Army Fashion Show. She enjoyed attending all of her Boynton and Wainwright School Reunions. Shirley also enjoyed attending line dancing at Hatbox Field. She loved spending time with her family and loved attending her grandchildren's sporting events and all of her family's holidays and birthdays. Her children remember fond memories of spending time at Lake Tenkiller and Greenleaf State Park. For many years she and her family and extended family, went to the beach in Destin, Florida. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, William E. and Lucy Foster; and special double cousin, Barbara Cobb.
She is survived by her children, Steven Bacon of the home, Carol McQueen and husband Kelly of Muskogee, OK, and David Bacon and wife Rita of Sand Springs, OK; grandchildren, Foster McQueen and wife Hilary of Muskogee, OK, Mitch McQueen and fiancée Megan Fite of Oklahoma City, OK, Courtney Bacon of Oklahoma City, OK, and Brent Bacon of Oklahoma City, OK; great grandchildren, Cole, Grayson and Sam McQueen all of Muskogee, OK; sisters, Shelia Brown of Tulsa, OK and Carolyn Foster of Dallas, TX; special double cousins, Nell and Riley Phillips of Irving, TX; nieces, Kathy Wilson and husband Steve, and Pam Metcalf all of Tulsa OK; great nieces and nephews, Russell and Ashley Wilson Boynton, OK, and Lucy and Travis Wilkerson of Tulsa, OK; double cousins, Leslie Donnell, and Brett Cobb both of Georgia, Neal Phillips, Lori and Jim Stephens of Texas; special friend, Pat Parks; and many other friends.
Shirley's family will receive friends 5:30 P.M. - 7:30 P.M., Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Cornerstone Funeral Home.

A celebration of Shirley's life will be 1:00 P.M., Friday, April 14, 2017 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Neal Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Mausoleum with Foster McQueen, Mitch McQueen, Brent Bacon, Steve Wilson, Russell Wilson, and Neal Phillips serving as pallbearers.
