Text size

Ruth C. Goodson, of Muskogee, passed away on December 26, 2016. She was born April 17, 1922 in Muskogee to John and Gladys Harrison, of Checotah.
Ruth was raised in Checotah and from a very young age she loved to sing and dance. She loved all kinds of music and was known for her soprano voice. She sang in the Methodist Choir, countless school programs, and funerals. In her Junior year of High School she had a 15-minute weekly program on radio station KBIX, Muskogee. Her sponsor was the American Legions of Checotah. The show's theme song was "My Buddy". She was an active member of the Rainbow Girls in Muskogee. Ruth graduated from Connors State College at Warner. While at Connors she was president of Thespians, a member of Delta Psi Omega, Girls quartet, mixed choir and sang with the dance band. She was a member of Eastern Star in Checotah, active in White Shrine in Muskogee where she was in the Patrol Team and sang the opening song. She was also active in Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
After graduating from Connors, she went to work at DuPont Chemical Co, in Pryor. She later worked at the Veterans Hospital, in Muskogee. It was at the VA Hospital that she met her wonderful husband Tommy Goodson, a fellow employee. They were married October 18, 1947. They both transferred to the Veterans Administration Regional Office, where they enjoyed helping veterans and their families until their retirement. Tommy was Chief of Contact Division and Ruth was in Loan Guarantee (housing). They had one precious daughter, Ruth Ann.
Ruth was a proud member of First United Methodist Church in Muskogee since November 1947. She sang in the choir, worked in the circles, and was a charter member of Friendship Sunday School Class. She looked forward to having lunch and fellowship after church with her special friends. Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who set the example for all to live by in both actions and deeds. She was very proud of her family's accomplishments and loved spending time with them. Ruth and Tommy enjoyed fishing, boating, dancing, playing bridge, traveling with dear friends and church work. But most of all she loved being with her family. Tommy passed away August 14, 1998.
She is survived by one daughter, Ruth Ann Moore and son-in-law, Craig Alan Moore of Muskogee; a brother, John Clifford Harrison of Broken Arrow; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Craig Aaron and Becky Moore of Waxahachie, Texas; granddaughters, Sarah Ruth Kathryn Grayson and Heather Ann Moore, both of Muskogee; five great grandchildren, Craig Alexander Moore, Caleb Thomas Moore, and Michael Aaron Moore of Waxahachie, Texas and Madison Marie Ruth Grayson and Aidan James Moore of Muskogee; sister-in-law, Darla Harrison of Broken Arrow, several beloved nieces, nephews, other family and friends, and her specially loved cat "Trysten" which she had for eleven years.
