Ross's Story

Ross C. Byrd III, age 70, from Muskogee passed away September 6, 2017 after a long hard battle with cancer. Ross was born October 2, 1946 to Ross C. Jr, and Margaret Byrd in Porter, OK. In December of 1964, Ross and Linda met on a blind date and shortly after he married his soul mate on July 24, 1965. August 18, 1966 Ross joined the United States Army to serve his country during Vietnam. Ross was a gifted artist and painter and worked for United Neon before he started his own business in 1986 as Off The Wall Studios and later changing the name to Byrd Signs. He enjoyed fellowship with his friends and being part of Andy's Breakfast Club in the mornings. Ross was a proud Christian, Mason, Bedouin Shriner, member of the American Legion, and a volunteer for the Brushy Mountain Fire Dept. He had a passion for stock car racing and loved being Crew Chief on his grandsons racing team. Ross was always up for a road trip, especially if he knew he could eat at Western Sizzlin or Taco Bueno. Above all, Ross was dedicated and loved spending time with his wife and best friend of 52 years, his children and grandchildren. You could always find him at his grandchildren's sporting events cheering them on. Ross was also an OU Football fan and was especially good buddies with his dog Brutus. Ross is preceded in death by his parents Ross Byrd Jr. and Margaret "Adams" Byrd. Ross leaves behind to cherish his memories, his devoted wife Linda Kay Byrd of the home; 2 sons, Scott Byrd of Ft. Smith, Eric Byrd & wife Christy of Muskogee; daughter Brandi Mocha & husband Nick of Muskogee; brother Jack Byrd of Muskogee; 2 sisters, Margaret Rhea of Dallas and Nellie Harmon of Wagoner; brother in law Jerry Ogden & wife Lana; 6 grandchildren, Blake & Dalton Byrd, Courtney & Hannah Mocha, Matt Lott and Tara Parrish; nieces, nephews and numerous friends. Visitation will be Sunday at Shipman Funeral Home 12 p.m.-6 p.m. in Muskogee. Funeral Services will be 1:00 pm Monday, September 11, 2017 at First Baptist Church, 111 S. 7th St. in Muskogee under the direction of Hibbs Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Greenhill Cemetery.
