Robert E. Flanary (Bo), 64, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2017. He was born on July 23, 1952 in Eufaula, Oklahoma to George Franklin Flanary and Betty Jean (Clark) Flanary. Robert graduated in 1970 from Muskogee Central High School and continued his education at Bacone College where he played college baseball and Northeastern State University where he earned a BS degree in Accounting. He later passed the CPA exam to become a Certified Public Accountant. He was employed as the Comptroller at Glover and Associates in Muskogee, OK.
He married Joyce Ann Kernes on July 30, 1972 and from that union his perfect son, Scott, was born on August 8, 1978.
Robert enjoyed spending Sunday afternoon with his mom watching golf on TV. She learned all about golf because it was his favorite hobby and she loved him so much. To him she made the best German chocolate cake in the world. He started a family tradition that the Flanarys called "Hide the Bear". Every Thanksgiving and Christmas, the nephews and nieces would ask him to hide the bear somewhere in the house.
Robert excelled at golf and made six hole in ones throughout his life. He enjoyed playing golf at the Muskogee Country Club with his long time friends and family. He was an avid supporter and fan of the Muskogee Roughers and Oklahoma State University sports. He could always be found on the golf course wearing those OSU Cowboy orange golf shoes!! He also had a passion to support his community and did so serving as a board member for Golden Rule Industries.
After 47 years had passed since dating in high school, Robert and Shirley renewed their relationship. He married the love of his life, Shirley Graves-Hilton, on August 20, 2016 with a beautiful celebration at the Butterfly Pavilion. Together they formed a fun and united blended family. Shirley had been a long time OU fan but Robert convinced her that her loyalties should lie with OSU. She is now proud to wear the orange color.
He was a devoted grandfather whom they all called "Grandpoo". He participated in his grandchildren's school functions, sports and other activities. Teaching them the OSU chant was a must. They brought joy to his life and he took any opportunity to show them how much he loved them.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, George Franklin Flanary; and his brother, Stanley Odell Flanary.
