Randy's Story

Text size

Randy Christian, prominent Realtor/Rancher lifetime Checotah resident, passed away Friday, March 17, 2017 after a courageous battle with ALS at his home at the age of 58. He was born on Friday, January 2, 1959 to Bill and Peggy (Longcrier) Christian in Loma Linda, CA. At the age of 3, Randy moved with parents, and his brother Greg to Checotah. He attended Checotah Public Schools where he received his education and graduated from Checotah High School in 1977. In his Freshman year of High School, Randy went to work for Cotton Kindred, co-owner of Park & Kindred Grocery. Two weeks after he started, Harold Park bought Cotton Kindred out. Randy thought he was going to lose his job, instead Harold raised his pay from $1.65 an hour to $2.00 an hour. After graduating from High School, he began working as a carpenter, machinist and later highway construction. Randy began working at Apex International Alloys, as a general laborer, where he worked his way up to plant superintendent of receiving and processing. Randy knew that there was something missing in his life, he was searching and asking God what should he do. While driving around one day, contemplating on what to do with the rest of his life, Randy saw a monument in a cemetery with the name "LAND" on it and it was then he told the Lord he would go to Real Estate School. Later, Randy, gave his life to the Lord on September 22, 1981 and was baptized and became a member of First Baptist Church of Checotah. On October 22,1982, he began his real estate career selling lake properties as a member of Odom's Red Carpet Realtors in Longtown. He married the love of his life, Linda Johnson on Saturday, November 6, 1982 in Checotah. Randy opened Golden Lamp Realty on February 16, 1985 here in Checotah later changing the name to Randy Christian Realtors. Randy never considered real estate as work because he loved it. Randy had a strong faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As a member of First Baptist Church, he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, drove the Church van and served on several committees. He enjoyed watching wildlife, riding his four-wheeler, driving his farm truck around in the pasture checking on his cows and watching baby calves being born. Another great joy in his life was coaching Jack and his teammates in Little League baseball and traveling to baseball games during Jack's high school years. He was even able to attend some of Jack's games at Carl Albert this last spring. Randy will be remembered as a man of strong faith and great love for his family and friends.
