Phyllis Jan Nowlin Green, 63, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Friday, May 19, 2017. She was born August 20, 1953 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to Phillip Edward and Mary Louise (Carrington) Nowlin.
She graduated from Sallisaw High School with the class of 1971. After graduation, Jan furthered her education at Northeastern State University receiving her bachelor's degree. Her professional life was spent as a legal secretary.
On August 10, 1978 Jan married the love of her life, Mark Fredrick Green in Norman, Oklahoma. They were blessed with 38 years of marriage, love, and life together.
Jan was of the Baptist faith. She became a member of First Baptist Church in Sallisaw, Oklahoma in 1969, later moving her membership to First Baptist Church Muskogee in 1978. One of her favorite hobbies was cross-stitching.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Phil and Mary Nowlin; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Fred D. "Jack" and Carolyn Green.
Jan is survived by her loving husband of the home, Mark Green; daughter, Kristin Carr and husband Seth of Broken Arrow, OK; son, Phillip Green and wife Maren of Tulsa, OK; brothers, Dr. Robert Nowlin and wife Mary of Sallisaw, OK, and Bill Nowlin of Edmond, OK; sisters, Amy Green of Muskogee, OK, and Barbara Ann Lange and husband David of McKinney, TX; grandsons, Graham Nowlin Carr, and Samuel Fredrick Green; granddaughter, Halle McCreary Carr; son (God sent at 16) Philipp Scherer of Bonn, Germany.
A celebration of Jan's life will be at 2:00 P.M. Monday, May 22, 2017 at First Baptist Church Muskogee with Evangelist Minerva Roberts officiating and assisted by brothers, Bob and Bill Nowlin. A private family interment will be in Sallisaw City Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Alford, Michael Capehart, Mike Carter, Jerry Coburn, Jim Eaton, Jim Eby, Bruce Green, Gilbert Green, Phil Green, Brad Hoopes, Preston Jones, Jack Keeling, Jim Risch, John Turner, Ched Wetz and Drew Wilcoxen.
Jan's family will receive friends 2:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M., Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Cornerstone Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Jan's family suggests memorials be made to First Baptist Church Sanctuary Fund in her honor.
