Minerva's Story

Text size

Minerva Sholly passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Brentwood Nursing Home in Muskogee at the age of 88.
Minerva was born on January 14, 1929 in Pennsylvania where she met and married her husband, Daniel Sholly. The couple raised their children in Pennsylvania before moving to Del City, Oklahoma for eleven years, and then to Duchess Creek Acres in Porum Landing. Minerva worked at Evergreen Nursing Home in Del City, Midwest City Hospital and Warner Nursing Home as a nurse's aide. She loved her work, but more than that, she loved the people she took care of. She also loved fishing, camping, gardening, canning, but most of all her flowers and dolls of all kinds. She crocheted so many beautiful things and sometimes had to call her best friend Tommy McFarland for help. It was very sad when she forgot how to crochet because of her dementia. But no matter what, she loved cooking and giving back to her community and loved attending her church and loved her church family.
She was preceded in death by husband, Daniel Sholly; parents, Charles and Hettie Engle; brothers, Charles Jr., Alvin, and Rufus; sister, Ruth Spangler of Pennsylvania.
She is survived by daughters, Vanessa Treadway of Porum, Barbara Prokup and husband Joe of Coweta; son, Daniel Sholly and wife Debbie of Warner; grandchildren, John Treadway and wife Vanessa, Rachel Treadway, Carol Prokup, Kati Prokup, Kari and husband Zack Caudle, Jerry Sholly, Jennifer Sholly; great grandchildren Justice, Jillian, Jordan, Hunter, Aiden, Tyler, Dylan, Laney, Zackary, Daniel; and one great-great grandchild still on the way.
A memorial for Minerva will be held at Freedom Baptist Church at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 26, 2017.
The family has entrusted Checotah Funeral Service with the arrangements. Friends may send condolences to the family at www.checotahfuneralservice.com
