Mary Jo's Story
Mary Jo (Jodie) Nevitt, 92, longtime Muskogee resident, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, July 30, 2017. Jodie was born on November 20, 1924 in Noodle, Texas to Jessie Otto Bicknell and Bertha Lee (Winter) Bicknell.
Jodie grew up and graduated high school in Merkel, Texas.
On February 20, 1943, she married Leon Martin Nevitt Sr. at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Muskogee, OK. They had 3 children.
Jodie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and wonderful friend. Her family will always remember her as a vivacious, beautiful, intelligent, and faith-filled woman. She lit up a room with her smile and laughter. Jodie's long life was a beautiful example of grace, humility, and generosity, coupled with a strong and enduring faith in God.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Jodie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leon; son, Leon Nevitt Jr., and sisters, Bobbie Hess and Peggy Spradling.
She is survived by her son, Ronnie Nevitt of Muskogee; daughter, Jaque Jordan and husband David Parslow of West Warren, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Robert Atchley of Muskogee, Robin Walker of Broken Arrow, Kim Griffin and husband Will of Edmond, Misti McKivitz and husband Kevin of Avon, Indiana, Holly Clark and husband Bryan of Dallas, Texas, Lauraett Nevitt of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jared Jordan and wife Sarah of Tulsa, and Erik Jordan of Tulsa; 20 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
A celebration of Jodie's life will be at 11:00am, Wednesday, August 2nd, 2017 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel.
