Linda's Story

Text size

Linda "Lindsay" Bates Nickel, 76, of Santa Barbara California (formerly of St.Helena, CA and Tulsa, Ok) passed gently from this earth January 16, 2017. She was born December 1, 1940 in San Mateo California and spent her youth in Muskogee and Tahlequah Oklahoma where she was raised by the Garner Family.
Lindsay studied at Northeastern State University. After varied careers and travels she chose to reside in Tulsa, Oklahoma where she spent 22 years working for Victory Christian Center. She retired to Napa Valley in 2006.
Lindsay was preceded in death by her mother Gladys Mae Ellington, father Leon Arthur Bates and sister Janie Echols of Owasso. Her family still living include her son Erik Nickel and his partner Michael Loftis of Santa Barbara CA. Brothers John and Phyllis Bates, Buddy and Sharon Bates, Butch and Brenda Bates, Jeff and Jennyne Bates. Sisters Sondra Arnold, Pat Hinch and Cindy Sindrey. "Adopted Sister" Sandi Nickel. Cousin Wana and Sammy Archer of Tulsa. An Aunt, Sue Carr of Tahlequah. So many nieces and nephews and grands and a cast of other in-laws and "out-laws" as she laughingly called them! She loved them all. She leaves her sisters in law, Beth Nickel, Glenda Nickel of Park Hill. Step daughters Debra Ann Nickel, Brenda Grimes of Tahlequah and Jennifer Berkley. Dear Friends John and Julie Nickel of Tulsa.
Lindsay leaves behind her furry children Sophia and Chrissy, and her grand dogs Jake, Marco, and Milo. Her caregivers Rey John and Gelen and "adopted" grandson, Jeremiah Gabriel.
Lindsay was a friend to many and never met a stranger. Her smile lit up every room she ever entered. Beautiful, Loving, Accepting, Dedicated, Joy-Giver are just a few of the words her friends used to describe her. Lindsay's personal motto was "its never too late to live happily ever after" and her life's mantra was LIVE, LAUGH, LOVE. She will be greatly missed.
