"When that train pulls into the station, I've got my bags packed and I'm ready to go." Thus John Hannah spoke of his life. He was born on June 2, 1921 and died on October 25, 2016.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of many years, Geraldine Bates Hannah, his parents, Jim Hannah and Bess Carr Trower, an older sister, Ruth Swanson, and an older brother, Paul Hannah. He is survived by his current wife, Helen Tarpley Hannah. They were united in marriage on January 11, 2011. Although it may be short in years, their love, care, and concern for each other was readily obvious to all who saw and knew them. Mr. Hannah has two sons, Jack, who resides in Tulsa, and Joe and his wife Margie, who reside here in Muskogee. Jack has a son, Albert, who lives in Chicago. Helen has two daughters, Sharon, who is deceased and her other daughter, Kennie Hull. Kennie resides here in Muskogee and is a teacher in the Muskogee School System. There are numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
"You're supposed to do what you're supposed to do because that's what you're supposed to do". Mr. Hannah took this axiom to heart. In his long career in the banking profession he often said that one of the biggest pleasures he got out of living was being able to be of service to people and his community. There are folks who have said that when they couldn't get a loan from anyone else they had tried, they would go to see Mr. Hannah and he would make them a loan. Mr. Hannah was known to have said that there was only one time that a person didn't make good on a loan. But this was only once and he never gave that person's name. Such was his integrity.
He was a life-long Christian and Southern Baptist by faith. He began each day down on his knees in prayer giving thanks to God for His goodness and blessings, asking for His guidance and direction. Mr. Hannah will be greatly missed by us all.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Central Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Funeral service arrangements are under the direction of Foster-Petering Funeral Home. Condolences to the family may be made online at www.foster-petering.com.
