JD's Story

JD Johnson was born March 25, 1939 in Braggs, OK and met his Mom and Dad in Heaven on Friday, February 24, 2017 in Muskogee, OK at the age of 77 years. He was the son of Everett and Nola (Hammonds) Johnson of Braggs, OK. JD attended school in the old 49 School House, then Braggs High School, graduating with the class of 1957. He worked for Swift and Co., Knox Service Station and OG&E.
JD married Virginia Shepler and to this union two daughters were born, Trina and Robin. After the dissolution of the marriage, JD joined the United States Army in 1962, and was stationed in Seoul, Korea and received an Honorable discharge in 1964. JD returned home and returned to work at OG&E. He met Yvonne Girty, and told his friends, that's the one I am going to marry, they were married September 1, 1967, and to this union his third daughter was born, Sherri. JD retired from OG&E after 37 years. He and Yvonne bought a Pizza Place in Fort Gibson, and named it JD's Pizza. They sold the business in 2006 and they went to work at Daylight Donuts with a friend and running buddy, Bobbie Joe Tummons. JD couldn't stay idle. He worked for Muskogee County District One for a while. He enjoyed going to the American Legion, Auctions, the 412 sale, horse sales and gardening.
In June of 1979, Rev Bob Shoemake led JD to Salvation in his living room. JD knew many people and he never met a stranger.
JD was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Clarence, Elbert Jr. & Tom Johnson.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Yvonne of the home; three daughters, Trina Clark and husband Steve of Whitney, TX; Robin Morgan and husband Jeff of Arlington, TX; Sherri Dalley and husband Ryan of Mcalester, OK; grandchildren, Gabriel Anderson and wife Stacy of Braggs, OK; Rachel Fields and husband Mark of McAlester, OK; Noah Anderson and wife Kelly of Braggs, OK; Toby Morgan and wife Kassy of Arlington, TX; Jacob Morgan and wife Jenn of Oklahoma City, OK; Conner, Kourtnee and Logan Anderson of McAlester, OK, and special family Shelby Trueblood and Wyatt Beshears and JC Dotson; 13 great grandchildren, Anthony, Graci, Gunner, Ruger, Reagan and Kyle of Braggs, OK; Griffin Jack and Emery of McAlester, OK; Jordyn of Arlington, TX; Tye of Braggs, OK; Jaxon, Gannon and Sydnee of McAlester, OK; two brothers, RL Johnson and wife Carol of Apache Junction, AZ; and William Boyd Johnson of Wainright, OK; four sisters, Pauline Goble of Braggs, OK; Owetta Goad of Muskogee, OK; Leveta McConnell and husband Charles of Gore, OK; and Carolyn Stricker of Gore, OK; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in JD's name to South Bethel Cemetery or the Alzheimers Association @ Alz.org/donate.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, February 28, 2017 in the Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Gibson, with the family receiving friends 5PM-7PM.
Funeral services will be held Noon, Wednesday, March 1, 2017 in the Chapel at Camp Gruber in Braggs with Reverend Pat Ford officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Military Honors. Gary Cunningham, Gary Andrews, Brett Andrews, Tad Andrews, Kyles Jones and Brian Carter will serve as casket bearers.
