James A. "Jim" Jones, 85, of Checotah passed away on Monday, June 26, 2017 in Muskogee, OK. Jim was born in Checotah on Sunday, August 23, 1931. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War from 1950 to 1954. During this period, Jim married the love of his life, Betty Lou Jones, on May 31, 1952, and was blessed with 65 years of marriage. Upon departing the Navy, Jim worked on aircraft including working for the United States Air Force in Wichita, Kansas. Jim entered the real estate development business in 1970, and continued in that industry into the 90s. He later worked as a real estate agent, and an automobile salesman at Mike Garrett Chevrolet. Jim is preceded in death by his parents; Dillard and Clara Jones, his sisters, Evelyn Jones, Alta Sanford, Elsie McGinnis, and his brother, Walton Jones. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jones; his sons; Gary and his wife Madeline Jones of Checotah and Brad and his wife Janis Jones of Justin, Texas. Jim is also survived by his 4 grandchildren, Keiri, Ashley, Buffy and Kevin; his 6 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family and a lifetime of friends.
Viewing will be from 12PM-6PM on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 with his family greeting friends from 4PM-6PM at Garrett Family Funeral Home. Services celebrating the life of Jim will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, June 29, 2017 at First Baptist Church with Reverend Tim Turner officiating. Military Honors will be rendered by the United States Navy Funeral Honor Guard. Burial will follow under the personal direction of John Garrett. Raymond Taylor, Mike Garrett, Bob Winkle, Joe Tiner, Billy Tyer and Jesse Childers will serve as Casket Bearers.
