Long time Checotah resident James Larry Every was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 9, 2017 after a brief illness.
James Larry Every was born July 2, 1951 to James and EllaWee (Johnson) Every in Checotah. Larry attended Checotah High School then furthered his education at Oklahoma State University obtaining a Bachelor's of Agricultural Science degree. On June 1, 1974, Larry married his loving wife of 42 years, Deborah Andrews. Larry accepted his first agriculture teaching position in Taloga, Oklahoma. On July 19, 1975, they welcomed their first child, Julie Michelle Every. In 1976, Larry was awarded outstanding young agriculture teacher of a five state region. After receiving this award, Larry was offered a teaching position in Perry, Oklahoma where he taught agriculture for three years. On October 2, 1977 Larry and Debbie were blessed with their second child, Michael Alan Every. Larry then took a teaching position in his hometown of Checotah, where the family made their home and Larry taught agriculture for nine years. In 1989, Larry began working for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections as an instructor for 17 years in the horticulture program and head of the Inmate Indian Club. After retiring, Larry cared for his wife, Debbie and spoiled their grandkids while he enjoyed looking for and collecting rusted treasures (antiques).
Larry was proceeded in death by his parents, James and EllaWee Every; father-in-law, Earl Andrews; brother-in-law, Earl Allen Andrews. He is survived by his wife, Deborah; daughter, Julie Every and children, Jordan, Jillian, JayK, Jaydee; son, Michael and wife Jan Every and their son, Hunter; mother-in-law, Annie Andrews; brothers, Gary Every and daughter Kadynce, and Don Every; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A funeral celebrating the life of Larry will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at the First Assembly of God, where Larry attended for 47 years. Burial to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.
