Fred G. Irving, 89, was born November 11, 1927 to Sam and Doffie Irving in Braggs, Oklahoma and passed from this life on May 6, 2017.
Fred grew up and attended school in Braggs. At 18 years of age he joined the U.S. Navy on January 2, 1946, thinking he might be able to serve along the side of his older brother Joe who had joined earlier. He proudly served aboard the U.S.S. After the dissolution of this marriage, he met and married on May 10, 1964, Wanda Hutchens Slape, a young widow with two children, Mike and Sherri Slape. She accepted his children and treated them just as his step father A.C. Kirk had done to him.
Fred worked on Tenkiller Dam during the time it was being built and later spent 37 years at Muskogee Iron Works from which he retired.
Fred was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Doffie and A.C. Kirk; and his beloved brother, Joe.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Wanda; 4 sons, Ronnie Irving and wife Sharon, Marvin Irving, Roger Irving and wife Terri, and Mike Slape; 2 daughters, Carolyn Carter and husband Larry, and Sherri Weaver and husband Roy; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; special cousins, Bob Rolland and Richard Weatherford; and many other family members and friends.
