Donald's Story

Donald Eugene Austin, 66, passed away August 17, 2017 in Fort Gibson, OK. He was born July 13, 1951 in Fullerton, CA to parents Doris and Willis Austin.
Don grew up grew up in Collinsville, OK where he excelled in Academics, Band, ROTC, and Baseball. He graduated from Collinsville High School in 1969. He then attended Oklahoma State University where he participated in the University Marching band. He later graduated from Northeastern State University with a degree in Mathematics.
Don married his college sweetheart Rhoda Hillhouse in May 1977 and moved to Fort Gibson, OK where he began teaching Math at Fort Gibson Public Schools. He also coached baseball and softball, leading multiple teams to championship seasons.
Don and Rhoda had two children; Ben and Becky. Don left Fort Gibson Public School to find a better job to provide for his family. Starting in 1981, he began working in various manufacturing factories as a computer analyst; working at companies such as ACME, TCA, RAE, and, most recently, Chart Industries.
Don was an accomplished musician, coach, and computer software writer. He started his own software company called AustinWare. He was a charismatic individual who loved his family which extended to the community around him. He was an active member of his church choir and often volunteered around the church and community.
He was preceded in death by parents Willis and Doris Austin from Collinsville, OK. He is survived by children Ben, and wife Ruby, and Becky Austin of Fort Gibson, OK. He is survived by 4 grandchildren Rylan, Mackinzi, Harrison, and Harper. His surviving siblings are Danny, and wife Sue Austin; Judy, and husband Kenneth Williams; and Janet Wakefield; as well as a number of dearly beloved nephews and nieces and grandnephew and nieces.
The memorial service will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Fort Gibson's First Methodist Church. It will be officiated by Pastor Kelly Payne and Rev Joe Wilson.
