Delbert Franklin Carter, 73 of Gore, Oklahoma passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2017 in his home. He was born in Webbers Falls, Oklahoma on August 8, 1943, to Cleo and Opal (Boswell) Carter.
"Deb" as many knew him had attended Gore Public Schools and graduated in 1962. He furthered his education and studied Entomology at Oklahoma State University. Deb then joined the Army National Guard and proudly served his country, along with his brothers and both his children. Deb had many other callings in life. He worked for Horne Spray Company as a crop duster, and owned Deb Carter and Son Sign Painting. Later, he retired from Acme Engineering.
He married Ronnye Kaye Kimbro in Fort Smith, Arkansas on January 21, 1992.
Deb's hobbies included trout fishing, attending rodeos, painting signs, and playing dominoes with his brothers. He also had a love for horses. Deb was a Gore Volunteer Fire Chief for nine years and started the first Trout Tournament for Gore Lions Club. In 1984, he cofounded the Gore Christmas Parade. The Gore Welcome sign, which he painted, will always be his signature to the town. Deb also was a devoted fan of Jerry Lee Lewis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ronnye Kaye Carter; sister, Dana Carter-Springer; brother, Jimmy Carter.
Deb is survived by his son, Jerome Carter and wife Wendy of Derby, KS; daughter, Jennifer Williams and husband Donny of Gore, OK; brothers, Donald Carter and wife Janis of Gore, OK; Larry Carter and wife Carolyn of Gore, OK; Gary Carter and wife Judy of Gore, OK; sisters, Evelyn Klucevsek and husband Frank of Chouteau, OK; Linda Neer and husband Bruce of Gore, OK; Judy Merrill and husband Steve of Casa Grande, AZ; grandsons, Kennedy Quinton and Blake Carter; granddaughters, Brittany Carter, Jordan Carter, and Taylor Williams; sister in law, Louise Carter of Webbers Falls; brother-in-law Russ Kimbro of Muskogee; aunts and uncles, Lena Risley of Vian, OK; Bobbie and Bill Mullins of Webbers Falls, OK; and James and Mary Carter of Rose, OK.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M.-4:00 P.M., Sunday, January 22, 2017, at Cornerstone Funeral Home.
A celebration of Deb's life will be at 1:00 P.M., Monday, January, 23, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Gore, Oklahoma, with Pastor's Steven Alexander and Doug Bane officiating. Interment will follow at White Cemetery in Gore with Jimmy Alexander, Robert King, Brian Kirkhart, Pete Bennett, Larry Fears, Charles McConnell, and Frank Hill serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Hamilton, Ronnie Hanson, Tom Mannon, Jim Arney, and Dale Thomas.
