Darrell's Story

Darrell Ray Shelton, 60, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Saturday, August 19, 2017. He was born October 10, 1956 to Wesley Ray Shelton and Edith Joann (Green) Shelton in Bristow, Oklahoma. Darrell graduated from Bristow High School with the class of 1974. He joined the United States Army National Guard in 1973 and later received an honorable discharge in 1974.
Darrell married Rita Eileen Chandler-Dunn Shelton on July 13, 2005 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He worked in construction in the oil fields for many years as an oil driller. He also worked at Lowe's as a Master Gardener for 17 years. Darrell enjoyed listening to music, fishing and gardening. He loved spending as much time as he could with his family and friends and loved getting pedicures with his girls. He loved being a Papaw to all of his grandchildren. Darrell's family will always remember his funny, loving and caring personality.
Darrell was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents; granddaughters, Kylie Renee Shelton and Adeline Kathleen Hays; and the mother of his children, Susan Graham.
His is survived by his wife, Rita Eileen Chandler-Dunn Shelton of the home; his parents, Wesley and Joann Shelton; his children, Jennifer (Kevin) Taylor, Amanda (Mark) Hays, Darrell Shelton II, Megan Dunn, Kaitlynn Shelton, and Katie Dunn; grandchildren, Blayne Taylor, Emileigh Taylor, and Isabella Shelton; siblings, Curtis (Melissa) Shelton, Jeff (Christi) Shelton, and Mike (Cindy) Shelton; other family members and friends.
A celebration of Darrell's life will be 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Coby Vinson officiating.
