Conrad's Story

Conrad Chavez, 85 year old Checotah resident, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 in Muskogee. He was born on Friday, July 1, 1932 to Fredrico and Juanita (Salazar) Chavez in Capitan, NM. He grew up in Capitan where he received his education. He joined the United States Marine Corps on Saturday, June 9, 1951 in Albuquerque, NM and was honorably discharged on Tuesday, June 8, 1954 serving his country faithfully. He was a proud Korean War Veteran. Conrad moved to California and began working for Allstate Insurance until his retirement. On Saturday, May 19, 1956, he married the love of his life, Susan Mae Grotts in Bosque Farms, NM, spending 61 beautiful years together. In 1991, he moved to the Pierce area and became a cattle rancher on 450 acres. His son, Anthony later joined his father in Pierce where he also enjoyed ranching along with his father. While living in Pierce, he served as a Fire Chief for the FAIC Brush Hill Fire Department. He loved ranching, working for the fire department and watching the Kansas City Chiefs football team. Conrad will be remembered by his family as a loving, caring husband, father and grandfather. Conrad was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Sam Chavez, Godfrey Chavez, Fred Chevez, Richard Chavez and his sister, Theresa Chavez. He is lovingly survived by his wife, Susan of the home; his sons, Anthony Christopher Chavez of Pierce and Michael Conrad Chavez and his wife Venessa of Australia; his brother, Frank Chavez and his sisters, Agness and Josephine. Conrad is also survived by his granddaughter, Isabella as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family and a lifetime of friends. At the time of his death, Conrad's wish was to be cremated and his ashes scattered on the hillside of the land that he loved so much.
