Charles's Story

Charles Wayne Rhyne, 67, was born December 9, 1949 in Muskogee, OK to Charles Edward and Geraldine (Mattingly) Rhyne and passed away Thursday, June 29, 2017 at his home in Muskogee.
Charlie grew up in Fort Gibson where he attended school graduating with the class of 1967. He continued his education at Bacone College before entering the United States Army in February 1970. Charlie proudly served in Vietnam from July 1970 to October 1970 where he received the Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter and Good Conduct Medal Commendations. Charlie stepped on booby trap in Vietnam and was medically retired receiving an Honorable Discharge on August 2, 1971.
Charlie remained active with the Military Order of the Purple Heart, playing golf, pool, quail and pheasant hunting and coached little league and American Legion baseball for many years and was a big part of many lives during that time. Not one to sit still long, Charlie traveled many miles around the Fort Gibson and Muskogee area visiting family and friends. Family was his first priority. He never missed a sporting event, recital or a gathering with family. He was affectionately known as Papa.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, and grandparents.
He is lovingly survived by his (Charlie's Angels) daughters, Dayna Allen of Muskogee, OK and Jaime Snyder and husband Jason of Fort Gibson, OK; the mother of his children, Jo Rhyne of Muskogee, OK; sister, Linda Delmedico and husband Veto of Fort Gibson, OK; brother, Terry Rhyne and wife Carol of Fort Gibson, OK; grandkids, Morgan Allen, Alexis Allen, Jaden Snyder, Brystal Allen, Sadie Allen, Jakeb Snyder and Jentri Snyder many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, July 5, 2017 in the Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home in Fort Gibson with the family receiving friends 4:30PM-6:30PM.
A service celebrating Charlie's life will be noon, Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Timothy Baptist Church with Reverend Kelly Payne and Reverend Jason Snyder officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery with full military honors. Serving as casket bearers are Darrin Allen, Michael Delmedico, Tony Downey, Jaden Snyder, Jakeb Snyder, Brystal Allen, Dusty Harris and Wade Harris. Honorary casket bearers are Larry Stach, Tony Lasater, Danny Hardin, Avery Snyder, Dudley Boydstun, Veto Delmedico, Terry Rhyne, Jesse Rigsby and Todd Rackley.
