Babette "Kim" Johnson, 54 year old Checotah resident, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017 in Tulsa, OK. She was born on Friday, December 21, 1962 in Phoenix, AZ to Dwight and Mary (Gray) Cox. Kim moved with her family to Checotah where she received her education. She met, fell in love and later married Michael Johnson in 1980 and became a wife, mother and homemaker. Kim operated a daycare in her home before she attended Connors State College, Warner and studied Nursing. Later she attended OU where she received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 2003. As she embarked on her nursing career she worked for DHS, Trinity Hospice, St. Francis Hospital and St. John's Medical Center. Kim enjoyed quilting, her pig farm, biking, taking long walks and watching the stars from the boat on the lake with the love of her life Dr. Meador. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Checotah. Kim will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her. She was preceded in death by her Grandparents.
Kim is lovingly survived by her children, Kara Lei Byrd and her husband Jackie, Jamie KiannWinkle and her husband Matt all of Checotah, Michael Wayne Johnson and his wife Joleen of Chapman, KS; her parents, Dwight and Mary Cox; two grandchildren, Diesel Lee Byrd and Jalei Snow Byrd; four step-grandchildren, Taylor, Kyla, Ember and River; her longtime companion and love of her life, Dr. Joseph Meador; her brother Rick Cox and his wife Kathy all of Checotah; her sister, Kaye Wittmer and her husband Steve of Muskogee. Also surviving is Michael Johnson, the father of her children, nieces, nephews, other extended family and a lifetime of friends.
Family and friends will gather at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 to celebrate the life of Kim in the Serenity Chapel of Garrett Family Funeral Home of Checotah. Reverend Steve Dennis, Pastor of First Baptist Church will officiate. Jackie Byrd, Matt Winkle, Rick Cox, Steve Wittmer and Justin Wittmer will serve as Honorary Casket Bearers.
