Winifred's Story

Winifred Lois (Sawyer) Donahue was born February 15, 1919 near McCurtain, Oklahoma to Robert and Lavada (Shepherd) Sawyer and peacefully passed away, Thursday, July 20, 2017, in Muskogee with her family by her side.
After finishing high school at the age of 16, she attended Connors College followed by NSU earning a BA in education. She taught for 40 years at various schools retiring from Fort Gibson Schools in 1982.
On November 5, 1938, she married the love of her life Leo Donahue, and this marriage lasted 55 years. To this union two children were born, Patricia and Michael.
She was preceded in death by her husband; Leo Donahue; her parents; brothers, Robert, Raymond, Woodrow, Theodore, Chris, Tom, Jerry and Gene Sawyer; sisters, Dove Bartmess, Izetta Harp, Matt Bradfield, Margarite Sawyer and JoAnne Sawyer.
She is survived by her daughter; Patricia Donahue; son, Michael and wife Regina Donahue; grandson, Damon Donahue; granddaughter, Sarah Doak and husband Gary; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Landon and Parker Donahue, Hayden, Creed and Karsyn Doak; sister in law, Myrlene Donahue and many nieces, nephews who called, corresponded and relied on advice, and encouragement from Aunt Winnie.
Visitation will be Monday July 24, 2017 with the family receiving friends from 5:00PM to 7:00PM, at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home, Fort Gibson.
A Celebration of Winifred's life will be held 9:30AM Tuesday July 25, 2017 at Citizens Cemetery Pavilion, Fort Gibson with Damon Donahue, Dylan Donahue, Landon Donahue, Gary Doak Jr, Bob Watts, Joe Bowden and Creed Doak serving as honorary casket bearers.
