William's Story

William Carter "Bill" Pirkle III was born on March 21, 1937, to W.C. and Jane (King) Pirkle at Tulsa, Oklahoma. He died on October 31, 2017 at Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.
Bill's childhood was spent in Tulsa, San Francisco, California and Fort Gibson. He graduated from Fort Gibson High School in 1955.
After high school Bill served four years in the Marine Corps.
He returned to Fort Gibson in 1959 and married Betty Henderson on September 4, 1959.
Bill was employed by Fansteel Metals for thirty years as a chemical operator and as a supervisor. After Fansteel closed, he delivered newspapers, worked security and was employed by the Department of Human Services.
Bill was a volunteer firefighter for twenty years with the Fort Gibson Fire Department, serving as chief for eight of those years. Building Inspector and Civil Defense Director were a part of the chief's duties.
Bill received a B.S. in Education and a Masters of Counseling from Northeastern State University at Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Gibson.
Bill is survived by his wife, Betty of the home; his daughter, Kathy Lynn "Katy" Pirkle of Fort Gibson; his son, Steven Glen Pirkle and wife, Crystal of Broken Arrow Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Tristan Bradley Pirkle, Marissa Kathryn Pirkle and Austin Carter Pirkle, all of Broken Arrow. He is also survived by numerous in-laws, several cousins and several step-siblings.
There will be a "Celebration of Life' at the First Baptist Church in Fort Gibson on Saturday, November 11th at 11:00 A.M.
Everyone is welcome to come as you are (no fancy dress) and share highlights of Bill's life.
Funeral service arrangements are under the direction of Foster-Petering Funeral Home.
