Wanda Ruth Ross was born December 6, 1930 in Porum, OK, the daughter of Ira and Inez Shoemake and died Thursday, December 29, 2016.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Richard "Dick" Shoemake; and sister, Billie Bess Ritter. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Bill Ross of the home; daughter, Tammye and Myron Lockwood of Roland; son, Billy Ross of the home; four grandchildren, Lance Lockwood and Morgan of Fort Smith, AR, Sara Lovett and Tyler of Checotah, Wyatt Ross and Shelly Ross of Morris; three great-grandchildren, T. J., Parker, and Hattie Lovett all of Checotah; two sisters, Lillian Hill of Charleston, WV, Virginia Tidwell of Checotah; two brothers, Bob Shoemake of Muskogee, Jerry Shoemake of Porum; numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and family.
Wanda was a charter member of Green Valley Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and did whatever else she could to help. She was a wife, mother, dedicated Christian, grandmother, and friend who loved her family and community. She helped as long as she was able. She enjoyed sewing, leather work, basket weaving, crocheting, and crafts in general. Wanda was a member of the Home Demonstration Club, Eastern Star, and proud member of the Cherokee Nation.
Funeral services for Wanda will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 2, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Webbers Falls. Pallbearers will be Billy Calvert, Bobby Ross, Rick Tidwell, Duane Curtis, Bill French, and Jeff Ross. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Tidwell, Bob Shoemake, and Jerry Shoemake. Burial will be in Fields Cemetery in Porum under the direction of Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home of Webbers Falls.
