Shirley Naomi (Wiseley) Mitchell-Wilson, 78, of Checotah, passed away suddenly on December 22, 2016 in Tulsa.
Shirley was a very special person. She lit up a room. The party didn't start until she came dancing through the door. She enjoyed life but enjoyed it most when she was making other people laugh, cut-up and just have a good time. Shirley was like a stained glass window. A stained glass window sparkles and shines when the sun is out but when it is dark outside; it shows its true beauty from the light that shines from the inside. Shirley had such a light. Her true beauty was on the inside and shined for all the world to see.
One of Shirley's favorite poems was:
When I come to the end of the road, and the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room. Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little --- but not too long. And not with you head bowed low.
For this journey we all must take and each must go alone.
It's all part of the Master's plan, a step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick of heart, go the friends we know.
Bear your sorrow in good deeds. Miss me, but let me go.
Shirley was born in Lawton, Oklahoma to Fred and Maud (Nichols) Wiseley on June 14, 1938. She graduated from Checotah High School. She married Weldon Lee Mitchell in 1956. He preceded her in death in 1992. In 1999, she retired after 35 years from the People's National Bank of Checotah. She loved attending activities at the Checotah Senior Center and Council Hill Senior Center. She was a member of the Checotah Church of Christ for many years.
