Samuel "Robert"'s Story
Born December 21, 1937 in Coal Pool, OK, passed away August 31, 2017. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and stranger to no one, Robert was a guiding force in leading his family to what we have each become today. He was the son of Samuel Washington and Myrtle Mae (Snyder) Jernigan.
A lifelong area resident and graduate of Boynton High School class of 1956, Robert married Peggy Johnson on June 28, 1957. After their marriage the couple lived a short time in Glenpool, OK while he worked for Oklahoma Natural Gas. They moved to the family farm in Boynton, OK in 1962 where they have made their home for the past 55 years. In addition to maintaining the family farm Robert began working as an auto mechanic for Cook's Auto Parts in Boynton which later became Jernigan Auto Parts and Garage, where he worked for over 20 years. He was also a 20 year member of the Boynton Volunteer Fire Department. After retiring as a mechanic he worked a few years for Muskogee County District 3. In more recent years, Robert worked with his son Dennis at Shepherd's Heart Music and also with his sons, Paul and Sam at Shelton and Gray Wheel Service.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, spending time with family at Horseshoe Bend on the Illinois River in Tahlequah, OK, photography and boating on Lake Eufaula. Robert's legacy will be handed down to future generations as we all strive to raise our children with the same love and devotion to family that was instilled in each of us.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Gladys Lorenz. Survivors include Peggy, his wife of 60 years; sons, Dennis (Melinda) of Muskogee, OK, Paul (Sandy) of Boynton, OK, Bob (Janiell) of Rockwall, TX, Sam (Leslea) of Boynton, OK, sister, Jane McCoy of Boynton, OK; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
