Ruby Lee York Ruby Lee York was born March 5, 1935. She went to meet her Lord and Savior on March 10, 2019. Ruby was 84 years and 5 days old.

Ruby grew up at the latter end of the Depression Era and lived on sharecropper farms during her youth. She attended several rural grade schools, some of which included Mt. Zion, Oktaha and Shady Grove. In 1953, she graduated from Checotah High School with high honors. She was an excellent student. After graduation she worked for a short time as a sewing machine operator for the Checotah Manufacturing Company. At the age of 19, on a recommendation by Mrs. Bessie Tabor, she was offered a position as secretary with Milam M. King, attorney at law in Checotah, OK. Ruby worked for Mr. King from 1954 until his death in 1990. She was later hired by Gregory Stidham law office in 1991. Ruby retired from her secretarial position in 2015 at the age of 80. She had an accumulative total of 65 years in the legal profession. She was always referred to as Miss Ruby. She was respected and trusted by both the business and local community for her honesty, strait forward attitude and her knowledge of the legal system. She was thoughtful and kind to all her clients and colleagues.

Ruby was not all about work. She enjoyed her sports. She was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. She even had the opportunity one summer vacation to travel to Wisconsin to the Packers summer training camp. She was also a fan of the New York Yankees, San Antonio Spurs, Notre Dame, and the Kansas Jayhawks. Her pastime was attending her many nieces and nephews baseball, softball, and basketball games.
Most importantly in her life was her faith in Jesus Christ. She attended church all through her life and was attending Trinity Baptist Church in Oktaha until her health began to fail. She was willing to help teach an adult class or in childrens church. She also sponsored softball teams in Green Country Softball League. She also contributed to many charities, one of her favorites was St. Jude Hospital.

Ruby is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Joe and Virgie York of Texas; her maternal grandparents, Marion and Ella James of Checotah, OK; her parents, Edith and Jesse York, Checotah, OK; her brother, Carl Franklin York; infant brother, Orville York; and her brother in law, Charles Edward Hall.

She is survived by one brother, Ortrie York and his wife Barbara of Checotah; 4 sisters, Neva Mae York and her husband Troy Harris of Muskogee, OK, Virginia Ann Arnold and her husband John of Shady Grove, OK, Jewel Dean Hall of Oktaha, OK, and Dolores Jean Townsend of Muskogee, OK; many nieces and nephews, including great nieces and nephews; many old friends and new friends.

She was beloved and will always be missed and remembered around the supper tables. She was all about family and now she has joined the family of God in Heaven with her homegoing.

Services celebrating the life of Ruby will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at First Freewill Baptist Church with Reverend D. Vann Washington officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery under the personal direction of John Garrett. Michael Arnold, Michael Wayne Hall, Lance Hall, Paul Brown, James Stradley, and Austin Thomas will serve as Casket Bearers.
