Roy C. Rains

Roy Clayburn "Clabe" Rains went to be with the Lord on Monday August 12, 2019. He was born on August 10, 1930, to Joy and Ruth Rains in McLain, OK. He attended school at McLain Grade School and Webbers Falls High School. In January of 1951 Roy joined the US Navy to serve his country. He served as a gunman on the USS Fiske 842 Destroyer for nearly 4 years before he returned home.

On February 12, 1955 he married the love of his life, Betty Jean (Harrison) Rains. Roy then worked as an owner of the Rains Appliance store for 14 years. While working as the operator/owner, Betty and Roy welcomed a son, Cary Lee Rains, into the family in 1966. In 1983, Roy was elected as Muskogee County Commissioner, District 2, serving until his retirement in 1997. After he retired, he turned his attention to raising an impressive herd of Angus cattle. Roy was a member of the Keefeton Free Will Baptist Church. When he wasn't working you could find him dove, quail, and pheasant hunting with family and life-long friends. He loved riding around the ranch and looking at his beloved cattle. He also enjoyed taking the youngsters to see the newborn calves and to survey the government land.

Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Joy and Ruth Rains; brother, Joy Rains Jr.; 3 sisters, Louise Rains Yost, Margaret Rains Goehmann, and Sally Rains Mathews; father in-law, Dalton Harrison; mother in-law Oma (Bowen) Harrison; 2 brother in-laws, Dee Harrison, and Terry Harrison.

Roy leaves behind to cherish his memories, his wife and soul mate of 64 years, Betty Rains of the home; son Cary Lee Rains, of McLain; 2 granddaughters Cassidy and Carigan Rains of McLain; and a host of special nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Bradley Funeral Home Thursday from 12-7 with family present from 5pm-7pm.

Uncle Roy will always be remembered as a a loving uncle and a kind soul. I will never forget seeing him in his uniform for the first time when he served in the navy. I was only three years old, but even then I thought he was the most handsome man on earth. Now he’s the most handsome man in Heaven. Prayers for my precious Aunt Betty who was forever by his side, his loving son Cary, and granddaughters Cassie and KK. We will all miss him. He was a rare treasure on this earth.

Roy was always "there." When someone was in the hospital or nursing home. When someone was home bound or lonely. When someone needed help. I will never forget the care and concern he (and Betty) showed for mama and daddy when they needed it most. The best neighbors/friends/family anyone could hope to have.
