Ronald Leon "Sam" Glisson age 80 of Newcastle, OK went home to our Lord on Thursday, December 28, 2017 in the presence of family and friends at Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City after a brief illness. He lived a long life of gusto and devotion to God, family, friends, and his country. A man of moral character and strong beliefs, he was a solid foundation for his family. He strongly believed that one must be a good friend to have good friends. Ron was born August 17, 1937 in Webbers Falls, Oklahoma. He was the younger of two sons born to Virgil Mitchell Glisson and Rosa Maria (Whitley) Glisson. Ron grew up on a farm where he learned how to work hard. He attended Porum Schools and graduated high school in 1956. After high school he moved to California to work in the Quick Silver Mines. In a few years he returned home to Oklahoma and enlisted into the U. S. Army. While in the Army, he was stationed in Germany and France during a peaceful time after the Korean Conflict. After serving his time in the military, he was honorably discharged and returned to Oklahoma and attended Conner's State College. He later married, started a family and began working as a Staking Engineer for power distribution companies, building many of the nation's initial power distribution systems. For the next 20 years he lived and worked in various states such as, Mississippi, Georgia and South Carolina. In 1983 he moved to Woodward, Oklahoma and worked for North Western Electric Cooperative where he later retired from in 1999. Ron lived in Woodward until 2015, at that time he moved to Newcastle to be closer to his children.
Ron always enjoyed fast, flashy cars. Throughout his life he enjoyed driving, buying, selling cars and RV's. He also had a love for motorcycles, especially Harley Davidson's and drove one up into his late 70's. He was particularly fond of traveling and enjoyed his trips to Mexico. He said the people were always happy, loving and generous despite their hardships. After moving to Newcastle he attended Woodland Hills Baptist Church and was a regular at the local coffee shop. His passion was his family and he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was funny, could tell a great story and always had a smile on his face. He would always stop and talk to people and had a gift for making others feel welcome. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by: Four children, Keith Glisson and wife Rebecca of Eustace, Texas; Angela Yetter and husband Mark Blakley of Oklahoma City; Kyle Glisson and wife Amy of Tuttle, OK; Shane Glisson of Moore, OK.;13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren,
Many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends;
Funeral Services will be 10:00am Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018 at Woodland Hills Baptist Church in Newcastle. Followed by a 3:00pm interment at Fields Cemetery in Porum, Oklahoma. The family will receive friends at Wilson-Little Funeral Home, 3132 Tri City Ave in Newcastle, OK on Tuesday evening from 6-8pm. Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
