Richard Wayne "Dutch" Hughes, 80, longtime resident of Porter, passed away peacefully February 14, 2018. He was born January 16, 1938 to Dallas and Bertie (Dowdy) Hughes in Muskogee, OK. He grew up and attended public schools in Muskogee, later transferring to Porter and graduating with the class of 1957.
His professional career was with OG&E, working as a professional welder. He worked there until his retirement with over 35 years of service.
His hobbies included fishing, attending to his cattle on his farm, going boating with family and friends at the lake and dancing (proficiently at two-stepping). His daughters, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many friends remember that he tirelessly loved story-telling and pulling practical jokes. Dutch, a nickname that he was known by, was loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dallas and Bertie Hughes; brother, Bill Hughes; sisters, Charlotte Brenner and Sue Moreland; and grandson, Jarrid Kennedy.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Diana Kennedy and fiance' Dewayne Stratton of Porter, and Dana Parr and husband Chris of Louisburg, KS; sister, Betty Honea and husband Dr. Tom Honea of Muskogee; grandchildren, Carmon Wieden of Bixby, Lindsey Parr Hall and husband Brandon of Seattle, WA, and Madison Parr of Kansas City, MO, great grandchildren, Lilian Wieden and Birdie Wieden of Bixby; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
A celebration of life will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February 17, 2018, at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Donnie Echols officiating.
