Reta Mae Tidwell "Mee-Maw", 82, of Muskogee, OK, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 19, 2017. She was born October 8, 1934 to Venis and Elnora "Ted" Fredrick in Barnsdall, OK. Reta graduated from Oktaha High School with the class of 1951. She began working at Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator. Reta married the love of her life, Howard Wayne Tidwell, in July of 1955 in Okmulgee, OK. Together they had two wonderful children and shared 38 years of a happy marriage. She then went to work at Muskogee Regional Medical Center where she later retired after 40 years.
Reta was a lifelong member of Fairview Baptist Church where she was a member of the Chariot Class and felt like her calling was working in the nursery and rocking those babies. Her true joy in life was her family. She never missed a single event that her grandkids participated in. All of her grandkids and great-grandkids spent countless hours at her house. She also loved her dogs and ran a "doggy care". Her many friends always knew they could call on her and she would be available to help.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Howard Tidwell; parents, Venis and Elnora Fredrick; and brothers, Jess and Bill Fredrick.
She is survived by her children, Debbie and Jim Pierce of Muskogee, Doug and LeAnn Tidwell of Warner; grandchildren, Joanie, Christie, Dusty, and Whitney; great-grandchildren, Ketcher, Caiden, and Bryce; also longtime friends and neighbors, Sherman and the late Mary.
Funeral services for Mrs. Tidwell will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Sam Dunn and Reverend Mack Hart officiating. Pallbearers will be Sherman Phillips, Al Phillips, Keith Perceful, Billy Hogan, Audie Strickland, and Bobby Fowers. Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Phillips, Lloyd Webster, Bill Lowery, Barney Moses, Keith Sellers, and Brad McDaniel. Burial will be in Fort Gibson National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Kelly B. Todd Cerebral Palsy and Neuro-Muscular Center.
