Nina Wafford was born March 1, 1926 in Rocky, OK the daughter of Jesse Allen and Jessie Lee (Cook) Kight and died Friday January 27, 2017 in Bentonville, AR.
Nina earned her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education from NSU. She taught second grade for the Fort Gibson Schools from 1966 to 1986. She was married to Adam "Sandy" Wafford on January 10, 1944 in Tulare, CA. Nina was a member of the Community Gospel Center, the Oklahoma Retired Teachers Association, Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of the Confederacy. She was a devout Christian and read her bible and prayed every day.
Survivors include two children, Dan Wafford of Brunswick, GA and Lavonne McKay of Rogers, AR; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren; nine nieces and seven nephews one brother Chester Kight of Tahlequah, OK and one sister Neva June Bearden of San Antonio, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, Troy, Bud, Leon and Glen Dale and two sisters, Myrtle McAbee and Vera Young.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at the Community Gospel Center with Rev. Don Landers officiating. Burial will follow at 2 pm at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery under the direction of Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home of Fort Gibson. Viewing will be held from 9 am to 7 pm at the funeral home.
