Neoma's Story

Text size

Neoma Lee Thomas went to be with her Lord on December 22, 2017. She was born on August 24, 1928 in Wilson, Oklahoma to C.C. and Mae Wadkins. Her teenage years were spent in Muskogee, and she attended Alice Robertson Jr. High and Central High School, graduating in 1946.
She married Donald Thomas in Muskogee on June 23, 1949. They raised their family in Muskogee. Their marriage was a Godly example to all, and the family enjoyed celebrating their anniversaries together.
Neoma was a member of First Baptist Church of Muskogee where she faithfully served her Lord over 60 years. She gained friendships and enjoyment through her ladies' Sunday School class taught by Mrs. Buck, who made quite an impression on her.
Neoma worked as the office manager and bookkeeper at C. R. Anthony Company. She did many years of income tax returns and also worked at Mutual of Omaha.
Neoma loved life. It was never dull when she was around. She made even the little things fun and exciting. She enjoyed the simple things like bowling with friends, taking drives, sitting on the front porch, watching the birds out her window, or just going for a Sonic drink. She loved taking trips with her husband and family. She never passed an opportunity for adventure. All you had to do was ask and she was ready. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her indescribable joy. She rarely missed any of their activities. Neoma was always happiest surrounded by her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, of 62 years; her parents; brother, M.C. Wadkins; and sisters, Dora Engle and Leona Phillips.
Neoma is survived by her daughters, Donna Sisson of Muskogee, Susan Pierce and husband Bill of Edmond; five grandchildren, Corey Sisson and wife Chrisa of Tulsa, Katie Johnsey and husband Shannon of Muskogee, Chad Pierce and wife Lynsey of Foristell, MO, Kimberly Callaham and husband Eric of Ft Gibson, and Cassie Pierce of Edmond; six great-grandchildren, Austin Jones, Tyler Sisson, Braden Callaham, Lainey Sisson, Paige Sisson, and Brooks Pierce; a special sister-in-law, Orene Hayner, and numerous loving nieces, nephews, and other family members.
The family greatly acknowledges the staff of Eastgate Village and Hometown Hospice for their compassionate love and care.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to St. Jude Cancer Research, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or online at www.stjude.org.
