Nellie Rodenberger, 93, a longtime resident of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away August 11, 2017, in Phoenix, Arizona. She was born February 4, 1924 in Muskogee Oklahoma to James M. and Jeannette McRoberts. Nellie married Darley Wade (Buster) Rodenberger on November 28, 1942.
She graduated from Central High School in 1942 and continued her education some twenty years later earning a Bachelor's Degree from Northeastern State University and a Master's Degree from the University of Texas with a certification to teach special education. She taught school in Missouri for a short period of time and retired from teaching in 1990 from the Oklahoma School for the Blind (Parkview) in Muskogee, OK.
After retirement Nellie traveled and participated in several mission trips to Mexico with the First Baptist Church of Muskogee where she held the distinction of being one of the oldest members of the church based on years of membership and age. She especially enjoyed her activities with the Muskogee Area Quilters Guild, Muskogee New Friends and as a volunteer in the Gift Shop at Muskogee Regional Medical Center. Additionally, Nellie was an avid bridge player, playing several times each week.
Nellie was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Mary Jonel; her husband, D.W.; and two sisters, Betty Jo McRoberts and Mary Wilson.
She is survived by sons, Robert and wife Carol of Muskogee, OK, and Samuel and wife Brenda, of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Samuel Rodenberger Jr, Rebecca Rodenberger of Muskogee, OK, Adam Rodenberger, Prairie Village, KS, Jason Rodenberger, Omaha, NE, Blaire O'Donnell of AR, Amanda Spirek and husband Scott, and Colby Rodenberger all of Phoenix, AZ; great-grandchildren, Geoffrey Wall of Muskogee, OK, Gracie O'Donnell and Bailey O'Donnell both of AR, Karina Rodenberger and Harmony Rodenberger both of Mount Shasta, CA; and many other family members and friends.
A memorial service will be 3:00 P.M., Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Muskogee First Baptist Church Chapel with Chaplain Phil Pack and Rev. Rex Wilkinson officiating.
