Myrle's Story

Text size

Myrle "Mutt" Leo Tadpole, 91, of Porter, Oklahoma entered Heaven's gates on Wednesday, July 5, 2017. Mutt was born on July 9, 1925 to Grover and Margaret Tadpole in Hulbert, Oklahoma.
He married the love of his life, Hattie (Goad) Tadpole on June 19, 1945 and was blessed with two precious daughters, Katheryn Goodwin and Connie Miller. Mutt and Hattie celebrated 71 years of life and marriage together before her passing last year.
Mutt retired from the City of Muskogee Parks Department where he served as Park Manager for many years. Mutt built the beautiful fountain in Honor Heights Park that is enjoyed by many families today. He was also responsible for bringing in the gorgeous azaleas that are celebrated every spring. All of the grandkids remember Papaw spending many nights at Honor Heights babysitting azaleas, keeping them warm from the early spring frost. Mutt never really retired. For the last 30 years of his life, he had a mowing and brush hogging business. He finally retired at age 90.
Mutt was always very generous with a huge heart. He and Hattie opened their home many times to anyone who needed a place to stay for a while. Once, he gave the coat off his back to someone who was freezing. Mutt ended up with a bad cold as a result, but he would have done it again without hesitation.
Mutt had great stories. He told a story about when he was a little boy. His mom worked for a young couple by doing their laundry. One day this couple gave them a ride to town. When he got in the car, he saw a bunch of machine guns under the front seats. That couple ended up being Bonnie & Clyde.
Mutt was preceded in death by his wife, Hattie; his parents, Grover & Margaret; his brothers and sisters, Hester Gregory, Edna Robertson, Clyde Tadpole, Lydia Holt, Tom Cochorn, and Alice Salyers.
Mutt is survived by his two daughters, Katheryn Goodwin and husband Jim of Muskogee and Connie Miller and husband Johnny of Ft. Gibson; six grandchildren, Kenny Goodwin of Porter, Molly Graves and husband Tim of Gore, Twanna Orman and husband Lonnie of Muskogee, Melissa Miller of Tulsa, Shanna Zapata and husband Joe of Garland, TX, and Sherri Krech and husband Gary of Muskogee; 14 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews along with other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Myrle "Mutt" Leo Tadpole will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Southeast Baptist Church with Pastor Lonnie Orman officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhill Cemetery.
The family has entrusted Bradley Family Funeral Service with the arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.bradleyfuneralservice.com
