Marvin's Story

Marvin James Miller, Sr., 91, of Muskogee passed away at Pleasant Valley Health Care Center on Saturday, December 9, 2017. He was born on April 17, 1926 in Cement, Oklahoma to Willie Dei and Lydia Pearl (Compton) Miller. His family later moved to Porum, Oklahoma to farm. He married Willie Dean Chambers on October 6, 1944 and were married for 73 years. He served in the United States Army from 1944 - 1946, and thereafter was a member of the American Legion until his death. In 1946 he returned to Porum, and he and Willie farmed for a while. They moved to Muskogee and he worked in the lumber business for thirty-five years. He was the manager of Muskogee Lumber for twenty-six years and worked for Hope Lumber for nine. During his lifetime he enjoyed making furniture, gardening, yardwork, watching sports and westerns, and attending grandchildren activities.
Marvin was preceded in death by his son, Marvin James Miller, Jr.; parents; and four brothers, Alvin, Ralph, Chesley and Carroll Miller. Surviving family are his wife, Willie of the home; daughter and husband, Deborah and Fred Fabian of Muskogee; daughter-in-law, Virginia Miller of Miami, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Scott Fabian of Portland, Oregon, Dana Miller and her significant other, Ezra Kigwanye of Glenpool, and Alicia Miller of Pittsburgh, Kansas; one great grandchild, Ella Marie Miller-Woods of Pittsburgh, Kansas; two sisters-in-law, Leatha Miller and Pauline Miller of Muskogee; along with many other nieces, nephews, and friends.
Marvin leaves behind a lifetime of love and admiration for all who knew him.
The family accepts visitation Tuesday, December 12, 2017, from 6 - 8 PM at Bradley Funeral Home. A funeral celebrating the life of Marvin Miller, Sr. will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial to follow at Greenhill Cemetery.
