Marilyn "Kay" Shinpoch, 74 year old Checotah resident, passed away on Wednesday October 18, 2017 in Muskogee. She was born on Monday, February 22, 1943 in Pumpkin Center, OK to James Homer and Emma McAffee Sales. After graduating from Checotah High School in 1961, she and her best friend, Georgia, moved to Tulsa where they attended business College. She married Thomas "Tommy" Boyd Shinpoch on Saturday, October 28, 1961 at the home of Kay's parents, in Checotah. After marrying, Kay and Tommy moved to Ft. Benning, Georgia where Tommy was stationed in the Army. They later moved to Muskogee before settling in to farm life on the County Line in August of 1964. There they both lived out their lives raising 3 children, farm animals and crops. Kay was known to adopt and raise many orphaned wild animals, including skunks & sparrows, nursing them back to health. Her greatest joy came from nurturing and caring for others. Many of her children's friends received comfort and shelter in her home. All knew the back door was always unlocked & there was plenty of food in the refrigerator. Kay was employed by various businesses throughout the years as an Accountant including The Muskogee YMCA, Muskogee Bridge Company & Crowl Oil Company. Kay later traded full time accounting for caregiving of Tommy but continued to keep books for various small businesses through the years. She was also an accomplished quilter & equestrian. Kay was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Checotah.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy, her sister, Patricia Ann Sales & her grandson, Cole Davis.
Kay is lovingly survived by her children, Tricia Michael & her husband, Roger of Franktown, CO, Kelly Davis & her husband, JR of Terlton, OK & Eldon Shinpoch and his wife Jennifer of Sand Springs, OK 7 grandchildren: Jessica Haltom, Emma Haltom, Thomas Davis, Christopher Davis, Casey Slaton, Weston Shinpoch & Brayden Shinpoch. 8 great grandchildren: Haley Davis, Kaitlyn Davis, Raina Davis, Echo Davis, Dekobe Davis, Gabriel Slaton, Rylee Slaton & Harley Slaton. 5 horses: Hank, April, Rascal, Peanut & Pretty Girl & many dear neighbors, friends, cousins, and other family members.
Graveside Services celebrating the life of Kay Shinpoch will be held 10:30 AM Saturday October 21, 2017 at the Council Hill Cemetery with Reverend David Bright, ministering.
