Margene's Story

Margene Allen died peacefully on Thursday, February 22, 2018. She was born in Salem, Arkansas on September 24, 1926 to Anna and Noble Floyd. Margene moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma with her family at a very early age, and was a graduate of Muskogee Central High School.
She was united in marriage to Burl R. Allen and blessed with three children, Linda, Janna and Stephen. After high school Margene began working in the Steno Pool at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and was regularly promoted to higher levels. She retired from the VA as a Senior Adjudicator after 38 years of service.
Margene was a faithful and devoted member of the First Baptist Church where, in earlier years, she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. After retirement she was very active in the WMU and its many mission activities.
She enjoyed reading, was a "news junkie", and loved to play games with her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. Visiting with family was always a special time for her. Additionally, she was a loyal Boomer Sooner fan!
Margene's family extends a special thanks for her cousin and friend, Joe Foster, for all the help and support he gave to her throughout the years.
Margene is survived by her three children: Linda (Gerald) Euting, Janna (Mike) Hitt, and Stephen (Gayle) Allen. She is further survived by four grandchildren: Michael (Shelly) Hitt, Stephanie Guinn, Lauren Allen, and Jeffrey (Tai) Allen; seven great grandchildren: Jordan, Summer, Hayley, Andrew, Jacob, Scott, and Luke, a treasured niece and nephew, and many special cousins.
Margene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, Vanetta, her brother, Jewel, and her son-in-law, Dr. James Neilson.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M., Monday, February 26, 2018, at the Chapel of Muskogee First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jay Williams, Michael Hitt, Jordan Hitt, Mike Hitt, Jeffrey Allen and Andy Hitt. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Foster and Roger Foster.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church or to the charity/church of one's choice.
