A memorial service for Margaret "Jean" Van Orden, 91, will be held Thursday, June 8, 2017, at 10:30 at Grace Episcopal Church in Muskogee Ok., with The Reverend Bob Wickizer officiating. Jean was born to Muriel (Van Hoozer) and Joseph Peter Carey on March 2, 1926, in Guthrie, Ok. and died June 2, 2017. Jean grew up and attended school in Guthrie where she met Reedis Van Orden. They were married on June 16, 1945. Jean said marrying Reedis was the best thing she ever did. They were married almost 64 years at the time of his death in 2009. She was also preceded in death by her parents, son, Warren Van Orden, infant son and daughter, grandson, Matthew Garner, twin sister Jo Talbott and sister, Dorothy Ruth Knight.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Laura Burchfiel (Paul), five grandchildren, Aaron Garner (Rainy), Calvin Burchfiel, Ike Burchfiel, Becky Barnhart and Greg Burchfiel; five great-grandchildren, Breahna Garner, Abigail Garner, Skylar Simmons, Blake Simmons and Brooke Barnhart; nieces, Katherine Runnels (Terry), Nancy Johnson (John), Margaret Gummow (Don); nephews, Joe Knight, Jim Knight (Terry), Mike Estep (Dianna), Phil Estep (Patricia), Dan Estep (Suzanne) and special cousin Marilyn Branch (Lester) who was like a little sister to her.
Jean was a long-time member of Grace Episcopal Church where she served several terms as the President of the St. Agnes Chapter of Daughters of the King. Jean loved to be with her friends and family. She had a generous and loving spirit that was evident in her kindness to others. Everyone was welcome to drop in at her home and there was always room for one more at the table. She loved to have fun and she could light up the room with her beautiful blue eyes. She will be missed by those that loved her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Jean's honor may be made to Grace Episcopal Church at 218 N. 6th Street, Muskogee, Ok 74401.
As you follow Christ into your everyday life, "Do all you can with what you have in the time you have in the place where you are." You are a gift from God to this troubled world.
