Lila Lee Marshall


Lila Lee McKee Marshall died on June 16, 2019, in Sugar Land, Texas. She was born on August 19, 1930, on the family ranch in rural McIntosh County, Oklahoma to Walter Cleveland McKee, Sr. and Savanna Karr McKee. She was a resident of Checotah, Oklahoma for most of her life, moving to Sugar Land in 2010. She attended Etowah School, Checotah Public Schools and Connors State College. Lila married Lee Marshall on May 3, 1947 in Van Buren, Arkansas. She was previously a member of the First Methodist Church of Checotah and was confirmed there as a girl. As a young adult she became a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Checotah where she was a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher and assistant Treasurer. She served her community as a Community Chest volunteer, Brownie and Girl Scout Leader and was also a member and former secretary of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was employed by Checotah Public Schools from 1974 until her retirement in 1988. Lila was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lee Marshall, daughter Cindy Marshall Death, sisters Christine McKee Looper and Pauline McKee McGinty, brothers Haskell McKee, Clarence McKee and Walter C. McKee, Jr. She was also predeceased by her stepfather, Andrew Gaulding and stepsister, Neva Durant. She is survived by her daughter, LuAnn Marshall York of Sugar Land, Texas; granddaughters, Julia Death Burns and Cynthia Death Machowski, both of Prosper, Texas; grandsons, John Marshall York of Sugar Land, Texas and James Todd York of Oakland, California; great-grandchildren, Jack Scott Burns, Cindy Lee Machowski, Lila Jane Burns and Davis James Machowski, all of Prosper, Texas; sons-in-law, Gregory Todd York of Sugar Land, Texas and James Lee Death of Southlake, Texas and grandsons-in-law, Jeffrey Burns and Michael Machowski both of Prosper, Texas, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Viewing will be from 9AM-6PM on Thursday, June 20, 2019 with her family greeting friends from 4-6PM at Garrett Family Funeral Home. Services celebrating the life of Lila will be held at 1PM on Friday, June 21, 2019 First Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Jim Jones officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery under the personal direction of John Garrett. Matthew Vandiver, James Duty, Kenneth McKee, Andy LerBlance, Benny Dixon and Bill Coleman will serve as Casket Bearers.
