Leonah W. (Biggs) Simmons, 79, died August 26, 2017 in Muskogee. She was born August 3, 1938 in Muskogee County, the daughter of Herbert Biggs and Marie Garland Biggs Stevens. On September 3, 1954, she married Richard Simmons, a marriage that lasted until Richard's death on December 2, 2013. She attended Central High School. Leonah was a homemaker and stayed home to raise her two children. Later she went to work at Anderson Wholesale of Muskogee, then, became a bookkeeper at the Fort Gibson Tag Office until the agent's retirement on 1991. Leonah and Richard enjoyed camping, fishing and treasure hunting all over the area.
Leonah is preceded in death by her husband, Richard; parents; and great grandson, Derrick Berry. She is survived by son, Ron and wife Debbie Simmons of Wagoner; daughter, Barbara and husband Don Walton of Muskogee; sister, Mable Taylor of Fort Gibson; brother, Jim Biggs and wife Mary of Van Buren, AR; grandchildren, Angie Turner of Tulsa, Stephen Clopton of Muskogee and Michael Hough of Geneva, IN; two great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Leonah Simmons will be held at 1:30 pm, Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at the Bradley Belltower Chapel with Reverend Kelly Payne officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery with Leon Simmons, Tom Taylor, Bryce Taylor, Steven Biggs, Joe Herrmann and Alan Simmons, Jr. serving as pallbearers and Ray Simmons and Bill Simmons serving as honorary pallbearers.
