Karen's Story

Karen Parks Dunn, 78, of Muskogee, Oklahoma went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 28, 2018. She was born on October 16, 1939 in Lutie, Oklahoma, and was the ninth child of James "Sonny" Parks and Effie (Williams) Parks. Karen graduated from Panola High School and obtained her Associates Degree from Eastern State College.
She married the love of her life, Samuel Oscar Dunn, on March 14, 1964 in Kerrville, Texas. They celebrated 35 years of marriage before his death in 1999, making many memories their family will cherish forever.
Karen was secretary at the Bacone College School of Nursing, legal secretary for Bill Settle, secretary at NSU and the secretary for Muskogee Public Schools Best Center until her retirement in 2014. She was an active member at Crescent Valley Baptist Church and was very involved with the "Young at Heart" Group. Karen enjoyed reading as one of her many hobbies. She also loved cooking, especially cooking meals for her family and baking bread for all her friends. She attended many craft shows, where she sold decorative glass blocks and many flavors of bread. Karen had a very caring heart and loved helping others in need. She will always be remembered as a loving mom, Meemaw, sister and friend to all.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 5 brothers; and 1 sister.
Karen is survived by her children, Sam and wife Carla, Michael, John and wife Ashley, Gene and wife Meridee, and Jerri and husband James; special son from another mother, Marty McConnell; grandchildren, Tryon and wife Jackie, Taryn, Jennifer, Katherine, Gail and Michael; great-grandchildren, Gracie, Jase, Larissa and Landon; great-great-grandchild, Jaime; siblings, Bill Parks and wife Bonnie, and Molly Otterson; and a host of other family members and friends.

A family visitation will be 2:00 P.M.-4:00 P.M., Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Cornerstone Funeral Home.
A celebration of Karen's life will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, March 5, 2018 at Crescent Valley Baptist Church with Pastor Chadd Pendergraft, Rev. Sam Dunn and Rev. Glen Rowan officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Rev. Steven Alexander officiating and Ronnie Holuby, Gary Dotson, Ed Fite, Russell Thouvenel, Terry Richie, and Tom Wade serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Donnie McClure, Jim Harig, Bill Bailey and Marty McConnell.
