John Bradshaw Tarbutton, 98, of Fort Gibson was born November 12, 1919 to Ace E. and Edna Bradshaw Tarbutton in Mansfield, Missouri and passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2018 in Muskogee, OK.
In 1936 John enlisted in the United States Navy and served in WWII and the Korean Conflict. He re-enlisted in 1951 and served in many Pacific locations throughout his 26 year career.
The Tarbutton family moved to Fort Gibson in 1938 and this is when John met the love of his life, Ruby Odell. After living in Fort Gibson for 2 years, he moved back to Mansfield, MO with his family and began working for Kraft's Foods. It was during this time, John would send love gifts of "Cheese" to Ruby.
After his retirement in 1970 from the US Navy, John returned to Fort Gibson and to his surprise, the love of his life was available. They married on August 7, 1970 and this marriage stood the test of time of 47 years 5 months and 12 days.
John was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Gibson. He enjoyed serving his church each Sunday. And felt bad if he missed.
John liked being independent. As he traveled his life journey, he loved shopping for his own groceries, working in the yard and going to the Quick Stop every morning for coffee.
He was proceeded in death by his parents and a sister.
John is survived by his wife Ruby of the home; brother in law, Cliff Franklin and his wife Diamond of Fort Gibson and numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations made in John's name to the First Presbyterian Church PO Box 1563 Fort Gibson, OK 74434.
Services for John were held 2:00PM Monday, January 22, 2018 at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Bill Bailey officiating. Committal prayers and interment will be 12PM (noon) Friday, January 26, 2018 in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, OK with full military honors.
