John Clayton Mabry, 73, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed Wednesday, June 21, 2017. He was born October 4, 1943 to Clayton and Mozelle (Conatser) Mabry in Henryetta, Oklahoma.
After graduating from Henryetta High School, he furthered his education at Oklahoma State University Technology, then went on to earn an Associate's degree at Connors State College. Serving his country was a major priority, John enlisted with the United States Army and served 26 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel and receiving an honorable discharge. John worked as a maintenance engineer for most of his career, he later worked for Muskogee Supply, Jess Dunn Correctional Center, on January 31, 2007 he retired from Oklahoma School for the Blind.
On November 27, 1963, John married the love of his life Mary Lou Roland, at Schulter Methodist Church in Schulter, Oklahoma. Together they had two daughters and shared over 53 years of life, love, and friendship together.
"Candy Man" as many knew him loved to be with his family and spend time playing with his grandchildren. His grandchildren adored him and will always treasure the time they had with him. He was an avid crossword puzzle player and enjoyed hunting and fishing. John was involved in many different organizations, he was a 32nd degree mason, member of the Oriental Lodge 430, and member of the American Legion of Henryetta.
He was preceded in death by his parents Clayton and Mozelle Mabry; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Pat Crawford; and nephew, Steve Crawford.
John is survived by his loving wife of the home, Mary Mabry; daughter, Monica Whitworth of Oklahoma City, OK and Tara Cypert of Muskogee, Ok; grandchildren, Blake, Blair, and Brooke Whitworth of Oklahoma City, OK, Clayton, and Brittany Cypert of Muskogee, OK, and Makayla Seeley and husband Logan of Ft. Hood, TX ; nephew, Shelby Crawford of Hazel Green, AL; brother-in-law's, Marceau Roland of Wichita Falls, TX, Henry Roland and wife Charlene of Okmulgee, OK; sister-in-law, Carol Roland of Alma, AR; great granddaughter, Ava Grace Seeley of Ft. Hood, TX; along with many friends who will miss him dearly.
A Celebration of life will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, June 26, 2017 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Cindy Culver officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with full military honors. Pallbearers will be the staff of Cornerstone Funeral Home and the Army. Honorary Pallbearers will be Fred Hogle, Kenneth Burnes, Ladd Polk, Blake Whitworth, Henry Roland, Marceau Roland, Randy Roland, Joe Dean Roland, James Beymer, and Clayton Cypert.
